george the dog had his first swim in a canal today in wilhelmsburg! we love george the dog.

scandinavia was good to us, for the most part. great to see friends in stockholm, who bought us some easter semla, which we ate (and got all over our faces) at a gas station.

i won't post any pictures now, because i don't have a camera. but i think the rest of LAKE still likes me anyway.

Darnius, Castellon, then Valencia

The first place we played in Spain was in the city Figueres, at a local bar venue called El Local Cafe. The bartender was very sweet. He liked to tease the young band who mostly play covers of classic rock songs and jazz songs. At one point he took off his shoe and threatened to throw it at them because they were playing too loud. They played for at least 4 hours nonstop! We were impressed with their endurance. That town is lucky to have such a venue for music.

Lovely people in Valencia, Spain, who have a bar/cafe called "el cole bar'. We listened to LAKE off the internet and also learned about and listened to the Spanish band, La Buena Vita. If you go to Valencia, you must try the local sweet wine, Mistella Moscatel. And go to El Cole Bar. And kiss them for us.

The promoter, Albert, had us over at his family's 200 year old house in Darnius. Albert has started having a festival in Darnius during the summer at the dam called "Darnius Festival." The town is very quiet in the winter because most of the industry is gone and people mostly come during the summer for vacation. Thank you to Albert for having us!

The drive to Prague took extra long because of a traffic jam. But it was a pretty trip. Andrew bought a family-sized bag of miscellaneous cookies. We played at an old punk venue with Karl and a band from Vienna called Plaided. We got bad news about our merch getting stuck at the airport with customs. We slept at a hostel

and tried to deal with the problem the next day, but in the end it didn't work out. Show in Vienna was good. Superb set with Karl.

I yelped with joy when I saw our sweet european van. Efficient and spacious, there's room for two of us to sleep if we need to. Three people can sit in front. It's tall. You can stand up in it. It's just just great. Hooray for Fluff!
Our driver is a nice Czech guy named Adam. He is really helpful. We're going to Prague tomorrow and we've asked him to show us a real thrift store. Our keyboard broke so hopefully we can find a keyboard tomorrow too.

Wampire:

Drowsy, jet-lagged, etc. Dry skin, chapped lips. Taking it all in. We all got up around 4:30 this morning and went upstairs for coffee in the lounge. I drank three cups (yikes!). Andrew und Eli are taking a rainy walk down to the river while Ashley and I sit at separate tables in the lounge. She is working something out on guitar, and I am taking little vid-vids on my little cam-cam.
I ate a spoonful of Nutella. Our Czech driver is picking us up at 3 to go to Wiesbaden for our show with an American band called "Kevin Divine".

Frankfurt Hostel

Tour Really Begins?
Lindsay and Andrew flew into Frankfurt together yesterday. Eli and I arrived shortly afterward. We all met at the Frankfurt Hostel. We LOVE the Frankfurt Hostel. What great attention to detail and design. I think it's especially rewarding for us all to have a day to just hang out before our first show. Lindsay seems to have the worst jetlag. We've all been sleeping and awake at all the wrong times. This morning around 4am Lindsay broke the silence when she realized that we were all actually laying there awake and said, "I'm bored." We didn't know that the lounge was actually open all night, so once we figured that out, we were very relieved and happy to get to eat food drink coffee and use the internet. We made friends with a nice man named Antony, who started a funny game of naming off American celebrities.

A week in and heading east

So the tour started a week ago, and last night we played a show with Yarn Owl, an excellent band in Pullman, Wash. It was the first show for this new venue in an old church, it's called the Belltower. I'd recommend it anytime. Lindsay wasn't feeling well so she slept underneath the table and Karl filled in for her during LAKE's set (she's gonna be ok). Ashley explained some things about her new song, "Michael Jackson," to the audience and then related that she wouldn't be explaining any more songs. But later she gave a bit of history on the folk song "99 & 90" that we do, at which point I leaned over to Adam and whispered that the BLOG sould be hearing about this contradiction. Karl has been doing this cool thing where we do a brand-new, just-written song and last night it was based on this cool dance video. the crowd formed a big dance circle and people shyly made their way through the center strutting their stuff. It was a blast, actually. I'm really excited to play in Missoula tonight. Last time we were making the rounds we got snowed in and had to cancel the Missoula show. But the skies are looking bright today. We're going to Wal-Mart pretty soon. More on that later!

settling into our future

We're all up on Whidbey Island right now, practicing for our tour which starts this weekend! Most bands practice once a week or something, but we save up all our stamina and practice for a solid week right before we tour or record. We're gonna be playing some cool new songs, as well as a few from our catalog that have been unfortunately neglected live up till now. We are also working on learning all of Karl Blau's songs for his terriffic "Zebra" album. On this tour you will see every member of the group playing every instrument on stage at one point or another! We hope to see you in a town near you!

So when we say Lake, we're talking about the German rock band from the 70's. What's the difference? We're LAKE. We used to go by Lake, until we found out about Lake from the 70's, and so now we're LAKE, because it is, afterall, an acronym.
Doing some webwork today, I happened upon this blog that someone posted about our sample track "Madagascar" that we've been sending out to writers in lieu ofour upcoming album release. Anyways, this particular blog had a comment about how the song sounds like one of Lake's songs called "Jamaican High" off their album OUCH.
